BRE 700: Lecture Series – Amine Sweetening
This lecture series covers discussion of amine solvents and the proper performance of acid gas removal units, specifically
high-pressure (HP) natural gas sweetening, low-pressure (LP) carbon capture, and mid-pressure CO2 removal (in blue hydrogen
facilities). The operating principles of these units are presented and modeled in ProMax®, as well as an exploration of the
rationale for common variations seen in these process units. Access to ProMax is not needed for this session. The lecture
series is hosted over MS Teams, and information on how to connect to the session will be provided after registration. For

Prerequisites:
Methods:
- Instructor-led demonstrations
Agenda
- MDEA Units – setup of a standard MDEA unit in an HP gas plant to remove H2S.
- MDEA + PZ Units – setup of a standard MDEA+Piperazine (PZ) unit for deep H2S and CO2 removal. This is also often the solvent of choice in blue hydrogen facilities for mid-pressure CO2 removal.
- AMP + PZ Units – setup of a standard AMP+PZ unit, a popular solvent for LP carbon capture applications. A short review of SO2 removal will also be covered.
