BRE 700: Lecture Series – Equipment Rating & Sizing

This lecture series covers rating and sizing of process equipment, including relief valves, heat exchangers, separators, and columns, along with their implementation in ProMax®. Access to ProMax is not needed for this session. The lecture series is hosted over Webex, and information on how to connect to the session will be provided after registration. Agenda

• Blocked Flow Relief Valve Sizing - discussion of blocked flow pressure relief valve sizing, device choice, sizing basics, nozzle models, and how ProMax handles sizing.
• Fire Case Relief Valve Sizing - discussion on depressurization, with emphasis on fire-case emergencies. Includes the effect of fire on both wetted and un-wetted surfaces and heat absorption to liquids.
• Control Valves - basic pressure drop calculations in ProMax using both custom and vendor valves.
• Line Sizing - how to estimate pipeline sizes for inter-plant and short run pipelines.
• Separator Sizing – using ProMax to size basic separators.
• Heat Exchanger Rating - how to rate exchangers in ProMax and estimate performance for both Shell and Tube and Fin-Fan exchangers.
• Column Rating and Sizing - review tray and packed column hydraulics, flooding, pressure drops, packing types, and tray types.
• Reciprocating Compressors - how to rate and size reciprocating compressors in ProMax.
